Temporary permit for underage resident in Sun City denied by county

SCHOA officials will remain vigilant

Maricopa County officials denied a temporary use permit to allow an underage resident to live in a Sun City home, but Sun Cities officials will remain vigilant regarding age restrictions.

Sun Cities residents and officials were concerned the temporary permit to allow an underage resident could endanger the community’s age overlay. Kathleen Coombs applied for a temporary use permit to allow a relative under 19 to live in her home as a caregiver. The Maricopa County Board of Adjustment conducted a public hearing on the case June 23 then denied the permit.

Coombs said the issue is about her granddaughter and her and 5-year-old son who had visited on multiple occasions to help care for Coombs’ 96-year-old mother, who has been experiencing some health problems.
