Tempe to finalize cutting speed limits on several city streets

After gathering data involving serious and fatal car accidents, the city of Tempe has proposed reducing speed limits in several areas across the city.

Eric Iwersen, Tempe’s Transportation and Sustainability director, and Michelle Beckley, a senior civil engineer with the city, presented the proposed changes to the council during its April 30.

Iwersen cites the increased density of residential and commercial buildings that brought pedestrian and cycle traffic to these areas.
