The Tempe Community Action Agency has named Phillip Scharf as its new chief executive officer.
Scharf, who assumed leadership of the East Valley nonprofit on April 7, succeeds Deborah Arteaga, who is retiring.
“TCAA is thrilled to work with Phillip and deepen TCAA’s commitment to addressing barriers to housing, food security and financial stability in our community,” Deidre Smith, TCAA’s board chair, said.
Scharf comes to TCAA with more than 20 years experience in community health work and human services, having previously served as COO for the Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers, according to a release.
He also worked as interim CEO and COO of Central Arizona Shelter Services, guiding CASS’s completion of its latest shelter located in north Phoenix.
Scharf will guide the organization through the development of a new permanent home, agency officials aid.
The facility will include a market-style food pantry, a commercial kitchen to support TCAA’s meal programs and Tempe’s first permanent shelter, according to the release.
