Tempe sees record traffic deaths, despite ‘Vision Zero’ efforts

19 deaths so far in 2021

This past weekend, memorials honoring lives lost to traffic accidents in 2020 were dotted around the city of Tempe, cropping up on deadly streets and intersections.

Some were pedestrians or bicyclists, some died when their car collided with another. The lives lost ranged in age from 18 to 77.

The memorial displays were in honor of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, which took place on Nov. 21.
