The Tempe City Council voted 6-0 recently to reconsider the controversial parks special event ordinance approved in July.
Mayor Corey Woods stated at the beginning of the Sept. 2 meeting the item would need at least two-thirds, or five votes to approve the reconsideration as Councilmember Randy Keating was absent. It was passed unanimously despite the original ordinance also being passed unanimously.
“To me, public involvement is mission critical – and it’s one of the things Tempe does best. Last year alone, we had more than 100 neighborhood and public meetings on everything from the heat safety ordinance to street improvements,” said Mayor Corey Woods at the virtual Septemeber meeting.
