Tempe recognizes McKemy-Riggs House as historically significant

The McKemy-Riggs House in Tempe has received its historic designation following council approval and the efforts of property owner Patricia Riggs.

Tempe City Council unanimously approved the historic designation of the McKemy-Riggs House, 135 E. Bonita Way, during a June 15 city council meeting. The property was also supported by the city’s Development Review and Historic Preservation commissions.

A single-story, ranch-style home, the property was constructed around 1949 and was designed by R. Lloyd Williams, a fellow Tempe resident who had designed and built his own house at 69 W. 13th St. the same year, according to a city staff report.
