Tempe receives $500K sustainability grant from State Farm

Funds will go toward heat mitigation efforts

The Tempe Office of Sustainability is getting a big financial boost, to the tune of $500,000.

The Century of Good grant funding comes from State Farm, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. In honor of the milestone, the insurance giant has decided to give back to six cities and organizations across the U.S. working on sustainability endeavors.

State Farm chose the Tempe office amid its efforts to mitigate the negative effects of extreme heat. The city is collaborating with local school districts, first responders and businesses to address stormwater retention, plant native trees and outfit public buildings with renewable energy.
