Councilmember Randy Keating at a meeting Jan. 22 presented the drink-spiking prevention ordinance to show the work of the Drink Spiking Prevention Subcommittee, which established an ordinance that would require drink-spiking testing kits at bars and restaurants in Tempe.
The ordinance would also encourage venues to offer drink covers or allow patrons to bring personal clear cups with lids.
Businesses with series 6 bar and series 12 restaurant liquor licenses that serve alcohol after midnight would be affected. Keating estimates between 65 and 70 establishments are to participate with hundreds eligible for the tax benefits if they comply.
