The Tempe Police Department is investigating a series incidents involving the public display of child sexual abuse material and asks for the public’s help in identifying a suspect.
Police have received nearly a dozen reports since Sept. 7 of "disturbing images" being posted in public areas, according to a release.
The images have been found on light poles, signs and path markers - primarily along the Western Canal from South Lakeshore Drive to East Vaughn Street, including South Country Club Way. Additional incidents have occurred in Mesa and Chandler near Carriage Lane Park and the Price/Western Canal Path, Tempe police said.
“Some areas have been targeted multiple times, with new images appearing within 24 hours of removal. The material is printed on low-quality, adhesive-backed paper - likely made using a home printer,” the Tempe Police Department release stated.
Authorities said they believe the suspect may live near or frequently travel along the Western Canal path. There is no description of the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call Tempe police at (480) 354-8900.
