Former Tempe police officer arrested for alleged fraud

Tempe Police arrested former Officer Demetrius Domonique Mitchell on felony charges of alleged fraud requesting more than 300 hours of overtime that was not recorded, adding up to more than $24,100 in wages.

“This is about transparency, integrity, and maintaining the trust of those we serve,” said Tempe Police Chief Kenneth McCoy in a statement from Tempe Police.

After reviewing body camera footage, a Tempe Police officer uncovered the alleged discrepancies in the hours Mitchell had worked versus what was recorded, according to police. Activity reports, GPS data, call sheets and more were investigated going back two years. There is no evidence of Mitchell working during the recorded overtime hours.
