Tempe police are continuing to search for a person of interest who may be involved a sexual assault and other crimes.

In the last month, police said, there have been three incidents reported in the area of Eighth Street near South Gary Drive, including one sexual assault.

In each case, a person of the same description has entered through an unlocked door or garage, according to a release.

Tempe officers are searching the area and are providing safety information to residents in these neighborhoods.

“Our top priority is keeping people safe,” Police Chief Kenneth McCoy said.

“We are asking our community to help us identify the person in these photos and video and, at the same time, we are encouraging people to take safety precautions. Lock your doors even when you are home.”

The suspect is a Black male, approximately 6-feet tall with a thin build. He was seen wearing a white long-sleeve shirt with an unknown logo on his left breast, dark-colored pants, black shoes and a dark-colored neck gator that covered his mouth and head, authorities said.

The latest incident occurred about 5:50 a.m. Oct. 12, when a man matching the description entered an unlocked back door and approached a victim while she was asleep, police said. The suspect was startled by a roommate and fled.

On Oct. 6, at about 3:45 a.m., officers responded to an in-progress burglary. After officers arrived, it was learned the suspect entered the residence through an unlocked front door, and the victim had been sexually assaulted, according to the release.

The first incident happened about 4 a.m. Sept. 15 when a man entered through an open garage door and approached the victim while she was asleep. The suspect was startled by a roommate before a sexual assault occurred and fled, police said.
