Tempe, Phoenix mayors show support at ASU for $29.6M federal microelectronics award

Officials from the White House and the U.S. Department of Defense met at Arizona State University on Sept. 17 to discuss their recent $29.6 million investment into five new local projects that will support domestic chip-making capabilities.

ASU houses the Southwest Advanced Prototyping Hub, known as SWAP, one of eight regional innovation hubs created under the DOD’s Microelectronics Commons initiative to accelerate the development and production of microelectronic technologies critical to national security.

The SWAP Hub connects the Southwest to “a growing network of defense and electronics partners across the country,” according to a release.
