Tempe meeting Sept. 26 on historic preservation ordinance

Tempe has scheduled a meeting for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, to listen to comments about updates to the city's historic preservation ordinance.

The meeting will be in the Tempe Public Library, Desert Willow Room, 3500 S. Rural Road.

The ordinance “offers protections for historically significant properties and archaeological sites,” according to a city release.

Tempe meeting Sept. 26 on historic preservation ordinance

Tempe has scheduled a meeting for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, to listen to comments about updates to the city's historic preservation ordinance.

The meeting will be in the Tempe Public Library, Desert Willow Room, 3500 S. Rural Road.

The ordinance “offers protections for historically significant properties and archaeological sites,” according to a city release.

Some proposed changes include:

  • Increasing maximum length of stays on issuing demolition permits for some properties.
  • Waiving application fees to designate a property in the Tempe Historic Property Register.
  • Expansion of the definition of archaeologically sensitive areas.

Those unable to attend can view a recorded presentation, all project materials and take a survey through Oct. 9 at Preservation Ordinance | City of Tempe, AZ
