Tempe is conducting a damage assessment after a storm ripped through a section of the community, and the city has issued an emergency declaration in an effort to assist businesses and homeowners affected by Monday’s weather.
Mayor Corey Woods signed the declaration Wednesday, the initial step in helping the community obtain funding for some of those affected.
The damage assessment is in coordination with Maricopa County and the state, according to a city release.
“These assessments help identify uninsured and underinsured property losses, which is an important step toward opening up more support for affected residents,” the release stated.
If the city qualifies for funding, low-interest Small Business Administration loans could become available for residents and businesses to assist with what is not covered by insurance, officials said.
If there is sufficient damage throughout the city, federal funding could be made available, according to the release.
