Tempe council meeting canceled due to potential threat

The Tempe City Council’s meeting Thursday was cancelled after officials said a safety concern forced members of the public to evacuate the council chambers.

Tempe officials learned of a threat that put the audience, council and city staff in danger shortly before 6 p.m., the meeting’s scheduled start time. City officials did not specify what the threat was.

At 6:25 p.m., Tempe Police informed the crowd there was a safety concern and the meeting will be rescheduled for a later date.
