Results for the Tempe City Council election are beginning to come in after the polls closed at 7 p.m.
The Tempe City Council primary election is underway to fill three open seats. To determine the winners among the candidates, the Maricopa County Elections Department will calculate the total number of actual votes cast for all candidates for an office, divide the sum by the number of seats to be filled for the office, and divide the number by two and round to the highest whole number.
If all three seats don't have clear winners on Tuesday, a general election will take place May 17.
The current vote count for each candidate is:
Arlene Chin: 10,815 votes (21.6%)
Jennifer Adams (incumbent): 10,469 votes (20.91%)
Berdetta Hodge: 8,923 votes (17.82%)
John Skelton: 6,716 votes (13.41%)
Casey Clowes: 6,152 votes (12.29%)
Gina Kash: 3,850 votes (7.69%)
Harper Lines: 3,017 votes (6.02%)
There are 101,822 registered voters in Tempe, according to the city. A total of 19,145 ballots have been tallied so far.
