Tempe approves use of $1.7M contract for shelter services at Sue’s Espacio

Tempe’s temporary shelter Sue’s Espacio will receive up to $1.7 million in funding for Mercy House Living Centers to provide housing placement and other related services over the next two years.

During the Sept. 7 Tempe City Council meeting, council unanimously approved the utilization of a 21-month contract from the city of Phoenix for Mercy House Living Centers to provide non-congregate shelter and case management services at Sue’s Espacio through June 30, 2025.

Sue’s Espacio, 2101 E. Apache Road, is a former motel that Tempe purchased in 2021 to provide temporary respite to people working with the city to find more permanent housing options and other resources, according to the city’s website.
