Tempe City Council voted unanimously at its Sept. 5 meeting to adopt a brass knuckles ordinance prohibiting the public possession and sale of the weapon to minors in the city, taking a step to quell concerns for teen violence.
City Council held the first public hearing for this ordinance on Aug. 26, where two members of the public spoke in favor of the city adopting this amendment to the city code.
The city has been working on this ordinance since early 2024 when Councilmember Berdetta Hodge heard concerns from residents about the use of brass knuckles in cases of teen violence locally, as previously reported by The Independent.
