A 19-year-old man and a teen boy have been arrested as suspects in the killing of 22-year-old Carlos Mercado Chavez, who was found shot to death May 28 in his car.

Derrick Teague, 19, was arrested June 21, and the other suspect was taken into custody on June 22, Phoenix police said Sunday.

The victim was found dead by his girlfriend about 8 a.m. May 28 near 2900 East Michael Drive.

Both suspects planned to rob the victim, police stated in a release.

They were booked into jail for multiple felony charges, including felony murder and armed robbery. No other suspects are believed to be involved, police said.
