Police ID teen shot at Mesa apartment complex; search for killer continues

The teenage boy who was shot an killed Tuesday night at a Mesa apartment complex has been identified.

Late Wednesday morning, police identified the victim as Joshua Ybarra and said the search for his killer continues.

The 14-year-old was shot at The Tides on Gilbert East, 225 N. Gilbert Road, about 8:30 p.m. April 11. He was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later, police said earlier Wednesday morning.

“Officers started to canvass the area and found several locations throughout the complex where shots were fired," police said in a release.

Witnesses were interviewed and “provided relevant information for investigators to follow.

"Right now, the suspect/s have not been identified,” the release stated.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211.
