A man is dead, and two suspects have been arrested following a stabbing that occurred just before 7:30 Oct. 29 near 6300 West Watkins Street in Phoenix, police said.

Phoenix officers responded to a shooting call but found a man with multiple stab wounds. He was treated at a fire station but later died. Another man was stabbed and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Witnesses told authorities there was a fight that included several people, some of whom ran from the scene into a nearby home.

Officers found the home near 63^rd Avenue and Watkins Street and called out the occupants. Among those coming outside were Nicolas Rios, 18, and Nicole Martinez, 37.

“After speaking to witnesses, officers learned Rios was identified as the person who stabbed the victims. Another witness saw Martinez place a knife inside a vehicle parked nearby,” police said in a release.

Homicide detectives took over the investigation and said preliminary information suggests “Rios and Martinez were with a group that became involved in a physical fight with another group of neighbors regarding a previous incident.

“During the fight, Rios stabbed both victims and ran back to his home. The knife believed to be used by Rios was found inside the vehicle which was placed there by Martinez.”

Rios was booked on multiple felonies, including second-degree murder, and Martinez was booked for tampering with physical evidence, police said.
