Task force to be established to determine future of Scottsdale’s preserve tax

A new nine-member task force is being pieced together to develop a recommendation for the future of Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve tax before it expires in less than three years.

On Sept. 13, Scottsdale City Council approved a resolution with a 5-2 vote establishing the “Protect and Preserve Scottsdale Task Force.” Council members Linda Milhaven and Tammy Caputi were the dissenting votes.

The task force was first discussed in May, when council held a study session about establishing a citizens committee to continue the 0.2% sales tax, which Scottsdale voters approved nearly 25 years ago to pay for the McDowell Sonoran Preserve acquisition and needs.
