Tall mono-elm cell tower approved in Eastmark in Mesa

A wireless communication facility designed to look like an elm tree can exceed the 30-foot-tall maximum height limit in an agricultural district near Elliot and Crismon roads in Eastmark, the Mesa Board of Adjustment decided recently.

The board on Nov. 3 voted unanimously in a consent agenda with other items to approve a special-use permit with a planned area development overlay for the 70-foot-tall tower at 9730 E. Elliot Road, with Adam Gunderson absent.

The tower is needed to provide continued coverage for nearby residences, businesses and emergency services in the Eastmark area, according to a written staff report.
