Tale of two: The men who would be Maricopa County Sheriff

November election decides top lawman

In less than 30 days residents of Maricopa County will elect a new sheriff from a field of two candidates — both career lawmen.

The incumbent, Sheriff Paul Penzone, a Democrat, contends he is shepherding a new generation of leadership and public perspectives as challenger Jerry Sheridan, a Republican, contends day after day cries for help from the rank and file of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office pour into his inbox.

Politics aside, each man brings a unique perspective to law enforcement based on the ideas of protecting the public, maintaining law and order and restoring respect and accountability to a tarnished image.
