Why I take freedom and responsibility seriously

OPINION — Viktor Frankl, a Jewish doctor of psychiatry, tremendously suffered as a prisoner of the Nazis during World War II.

Two things he later wrote about: Many who survived the death camps focused on a reason(s) to live, and tenaciously clung to them, helping them to get through their suffering. The other thing concerned freedom.

He surmised that many can imprison a person from the outside, but one, even though it can be hard, does not have to relinquish their freedom on the inside.
