Symphony series features 6 shows

The 2022-23 West Valley Symphony Series at The Vista Center for the Arts, 15660 N. Parkview Place, will feature six performances, most of them return engagements, including:

• From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 20 - Welcome Back Vladimir. Pianist Vladimir Khomyakov will return to The Vista stage joining the West Valley Symphony performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Concert includes Beethoven’s Leonore Overture and Symphony No 3.

• From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 18 - The West Valley Youth Orchestra returns. The West Valley Symphony will fill the first half of the concert with holiday orchestral favorites such as the Nutcracker Suite and Festive Sounds of Hanukkah. They will be joined in the second half by the West Valley Youth Orchestra with more yuletide favorites such as “A Most Wonderful Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride” and “Greensleeves.”

The 2022-23 West Valley Symphony Series at The Vista Center for the Arts, 15660 N. Parkview Place, will feature six performances, most of them return engagements, including:

• From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 20 - Welcome Back Vladimir. Pianist Vladimir Khomyakov will return to The Vista stage joining the West Valley Symphony performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Concert includes Beethoven’s Leonore Overture and Symphony No 3.

• From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 18 - The West Valley Youth Orchestra returns. • From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 15 - Welcome Back Jonathan. Violinist Jonathan Okseniuk returns to The Vista stage performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D. Jonathan has been performing as a soloist since age 4. At the age of five he made his orchestral debut with the Suprima Chamber Orchestra. During the past five years,Okseniuk has played as concertmaster, assistant concert master and principal second violin and is assistant concertmaster of the Phoenix Youth Symphony Orchestra. Concert includes Sibelius’ “Finlandia” and Mussorgsky/Ravel’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.”

• From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 5 - Welcome Back Anna. Anna Han will join the West Valley Symphony performing Schumann’s Piano Concert in A Minor. Born in Mesa, Han began her musical journey at the age of four at the East Valley Yamaha Music School. Anna received her Bachelor and Masters degrees at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Robert McDonald, graduating in 2020. She is pursuing a professional diploma at the Royal Academy of Music in London under the tutelage of Christopher Elton. Concert includes Rossini’s “Semiramide Overture” and Brahm’s “Symphony no. 2 in D Major.”

• From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 26 - The West Valley Symphony’s Joshua Haake, principal trumpet, performs Arthur Arutiunian’s “Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra,” the Armenian composer’s sixth composition written in 1949-50. Concert includes Mozart’s “Symphony No. 41” in C Major and Kodály’s “Dances of Galánta.”

• From 3 to 4:30 p.m. March 19 - To top off the season, Maestro Kellogg conducts the West Valley Symphony performing Chadwick’s “Jubilee” from Symphony Sketches, Hanson’s “Symphony No. 2,” “Romantic”, Bernstein’s Dances from “West Side Story,” and Copland’s “Hoedown from Rodeo.”
