Suspected animal abuser arrested in Alabama

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has announced the arrest of Lester Paul Richmond, 36, who was facing a grand jury warrant for animal cruelty.

In June of 2023, the Scottsdale Police Department received a call regarding a dead Husky puppy found in a city alley with its mouth taped shut. Last December, Richmond was indicted on one count of intentionally subjecting a domestic animal to cruel mistreatment, a Class 5 Felony.

Richmond was arrested in Troy, Alabama, on Friday. MCAO Animal Cruelty Detective Heather Krimm was instrumental in locating the defendant, facilitating his arrest. Richmond is currently in jail in Alabama awaiting extradition to Arizona.
