A 35-year-old man was arrested on Thanksgiving Day as the suspect in a September crash that killed two women, Gilbert police said.

Robb Hintzsche, who was injured in the Sept. 19 collision at Recker and Ray roads, was released from a hospital Thursday and booked into jail. He was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, three counts of felony endangerment and one count of animal cruelty, police said.

The crash occurred after 36-year-old Nicole Snell, who was working as a Lyft driver, picked up Marisa Jorgenson, 33, as a passenger.

Snell traveled north through the Recker/Ray intersection on a green light when “Hintzsche is alleged to have entered the intersection headed westbound through a red light at speeds estimated between 89–96 mph,” a Gilbert Police Department released stated.

The posted speed limit is 45 mph.

Hintzsche’s vehicle struck Snell’s car, causing it to spin and collide with a traffic pole on the northwest corner of the intersection.

Snell and Jorgensen were pronounced dead at the scene along with Bellini, the driver’s dog who was in the car.

“This case is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating consequences of drinking and driving,” the release stated.

“Evidence supports that Hintzsche operated his vehicle with an alleged blood alcohol content of .287" - more than three times the legal limit.
