A 23-year-old man has been arrested on a murder charge in connection with a shooting death that occurred Friday, police said.
Authorities allege that Jose Luis Fajardo shot and killed Luis Eduardo Beltran Arteaga, 27, at about 1 a.m. Nov. 29 near 50th and St. Anne avenues.
When officers arrived at the home where the shooting occuurred, they learned that a man, later identified as Beltran Arteaga, had been shot by “a known suspect,” according to a release from the Phoenix Police Department.
Beltran Arteaga was taken by family members to a hospital after being shot, but he died from his injuries, police said.
Witnesses told officers that the suspect ran from the home into the neighborhood. Fajardo was found and arrested near the home, the release stated.
Homicide detectives said they learned that earlier in the night, Fajardo and a woman were involved in a fight near 47th Avenue and Van Buren Street during which Fajardo fired a handgun several times. The woman was not injured.
She returned to the home near 50th Avenue and St. Anne. Fajardo went to the home about 1 a.m. and forced his way in through a door, police said.
He found Beltran Arteaga inside of the home and allegedly shot him, running from the home after the shooting, according to the release.
