A 39-year-old man faces five charges in connection with an officer-involved shooting and domestic violence incident at a home in Mesa.
Rickey Lee Robertson was arrested after barricading himself in a home Feb. 3 near 400 South 32nd Street.
Police received a call about 9:20 a.m. Feb. 3 and, when officers arrived, they learned about a domestic violence situation that began the night before.
Officers were told the man was acting erratically and was possibly intoxicated, the release stated. They also learned the suspect had threatened to harm himself and may have fired a round inside the home.
After ensuring no one else was inside the home, officers began communicating with the man who, at one point, appeared near a doorway “and heard what they believed to be gunshots coming from the apartment and this is when the officer-involved shooting occurred. Officers deployed less lethal measures to take the suspect into custody,” the release stated.
Robertson has been charged with:
- Disorderly conduct domestic violence fighting.
- Aggravated assault deadly weapon/dangerous instrument.
- Aggravated assault deadly weapon/dangerous instrument.
- Discharging a firearm within the city limits.
- Possessing a weapon by a prohibited possessor.
Tempe Police Department is the lead investigating agency in the officer-involved shooting.
