A shooting on West Highland Avenue in Phoenix left two men dead and sent another to jail, police said.

Police responded about 3:20 a.m. Oct. 28 to a shooting near 67th and Highland avenues where they found two men with gunshot wounds. Jose Jimenez, 34, and Marquez Booker, 21, died at the scene.

The suspect fled.

Homicide detectives took over the investigation, and the suspect was identified as Jessie Olvera, 20. He was found near 73rd Avenue and Sanna Street in Peoria. Olvera was taken into custody after a barricade at a nearby home, police said.

He was interviewed by detectives and made “incriminating statements,” police said.

Olvera was booked on multiple felony charges, including second-degree murder, according to a release from the Phoenix Police Department.

An investigation is ongoing.
