SUSD students defend need for counselors

Arcadia High School student Kinsey Hunkins relies heavily on her guidance counselor to help navigate her learning disability.

That is why she expressed concern when the Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board was considering cutting guidance counselors during its Feb. 10 meeting.

The board was looking for ways to cinch up an $8 million shortfall in next school year’s budget due to declining enrollment and low state funding.
