Tarnisha Tilson’s job title is criminal justice teacher at Chaparral High School, but she teaches much more than that.
The 60 students in her classes get lessons in things like mock trials, forensic science work and police report writing but the lessons also reinforce what the students are learning in their other classes.
“I like to say with the criminal justice program we cover all areas of the core courses,” Tilson said. “You have your English, math, science and social studies. With social studies we cover government, constitutional law. How are our criminal laws written ... When we talk about science we talk about chemistry, toxicology, we have some physics with ballistics, we have some biology because we talk about DNA.
