The Scottsdale Unified School District governing board approved a plan Feb. 10 that will cut approximately $3.9 million in spending from next school year’s budget to help balance that budget.
The District faced a projected budget deficit of $7.7 million short fall next year. Closing Pima Elementary and Echo Canyon K-8 schools saves about $2.5 Additionally, district officials plan to transfer $5.4 million in District Additional Assistance to Maintenance and Operations to address the budget deficit. That left a whole of about $3.6 million, which is covered by the board’s action.
The spending cuts, approved by a 3-1-1 vote during the meeting, include things like cutting the security department by $250,000, reducing the teacher instructional leader program by $250,000 and the reduction of instructional support specialists by $456,833.
