Scottsdale school board members ask for dueling investigations of each other

Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board President Julie Cieniawski and governing board member Amy Carney have requested superintendent Dr. Scott Menzel to investigate each other’s actions for possible violations of governing board policy.

During the board’s June 20 meeting, Cieniawski asked Menzel to investigate Carney and governing board member Carine Warner’s participation in Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne’s June 8 press conference about his empowerment hotline. During the meeting, Carney and Werner both spoke against the governing board’s purchase of the PebbleGo curriculum for next school year.

Cieniawski’s request for investigation is due to her belief  Carney and Werner’s actions could be a violation of board policy that states board members must “accept the will of the majority vote in all cases, and not to actively undermine decisions.”
