Valley city grapples with poor ratings of vehicle accidents involving pedestrians, cyclists

Improvements for streets, crosswalks, speed enforcement as even pedestrian deaths decrease

Glendale officials know why a recent ConsumerAffairs survey lists the city as the eighth most dangerous city in the county for both pedestrians and cyclists among the 100 largest U.S. cities.

The city also is confident recent safety improvements on arterial streets, new crosswalks at busy intersections and vehicle speed enforcement upgrades are reversing this trend for future rankings, and making Glendale safer.

In 2020, there were 15 total fatal pedestrian crashes in Glendale, while in both 2021 and in 2023 there were 14 fatal pedestrian crashes.
