The internal auditor for the city of Surprise is about to become more independent.
The Surprise City Council unanimously voted Feb. 15 to remove the auditor from under the city manager’s command and put it under the council instead.
“If you look at corporate governance, a best practice is the internal auditor in corporations reports to the board of directors,” City Manager Bob Wingenroth told the City Council. “In local government the best practice is the internal auditor reports to the governing body — in our case the City Council.”
