Surprise's ambulance service getting rave reviews

Calls for service on rise in its 7th year

When a Surprise resident calls 911, there is a good chance he or she will deal with a city of Surprise employee after the initial call all the way to the transport to the hospital.

That’s because the city of Surprise Fire-Medical Department operates its own ambulance service with five ambulances out of its multiple stations across the city.

“What we’ve been able to do successfully is increase the service that we provide to residents when they dial 911,” Fire Chief Tom Abbott told the Surprise City Council on Feb. 1 in a status report on the city’s ambulance service.
