Born out of the ashes of the waylaid Boys & Girls Club proposal in Surprise, the nonprofit Surprise Youth Foundation is now fulfilling some of the same functions five years later.
The foundation does not have — and is not looking for — a physical building. Instead it relies on partnerships with Dysart Community Center in El Mirage and the Surprise Human Services and Community Vitality Department, which allows access to the Surprise Senior Center.
Those sites host the group’s signature program, Kids Club Surprise, as both an after-school program with an intergenerational component and as a summer camp. With three key corporate sponsors, the club is on solid financial ground, but the foundation is seeking more donations to expand the program.
