West Valley woman has impactful religious presence in community

Resident turns tragedy into spiritual journey to find God

Surprise resident Shawna Daigle has needed a wheelchair her whole life, but because of her strong faith in God, she said it hasn’t stopped her from making an impact in Surprise.

In a little more than a decade here, the 57-year-old Mountain Vista Ranch resident has become a frequent presence at city events. She has performed invocations at city council meetings, worked on prayer events with local insurance agent Raymond Grim and once served as an original member of the city’s Veterans, Disability and Human Services Commission.

“It has been a pleasure to have her serve our community,” Grim said after the May 1 National Day of Prayer service brought about 200 worshipers to the yard outside the Public Safety Administration building near City Hall.
