Surprise wants to cut business startup costs on licenses

Council discusses if veterans or everybody should be eligible

Starting a business in Surprise may get a little cheaper in the future — but for who and how much is still up in the air.

The Surprise City Council on Sept. 17 discussed during a work session lowering the business license fees for veterans. But the talk expanded to possibly lowering the costs for all people trying to start a business within the city.

City law requires any person who “practices, transacts or carries on any business” within Surprise to obtain a city business license.
