Surprise wants small businesses to start slow

Passion about and skill in a specialized area can cause budding entrepreneurs to speed into starting a small business.

Surprise does not want to dissuade more small, locally owned businesses from continuing to open. But the city hopes that more prospective business owners pump the brakes and take a look at the free services the Surprise Economic Development department offers for startups.

Surprise Economic Development Director Jeanine Jerkovic discussed this phenomenon with the City Council during a small business and entrepreneurship education presentation during the Sept. 7 work session.
