A new endowment scholarship is aiming to help students at the Western Maricopa Education Center in Surprise.
The Surprise City Council on June 20 approved creating the Surprise Career Development Scholarship Fund, which will fund a total of $100,000 fo qualified West-MEC students to use for the 2023-24 school year.
The scholarship is part of a city initiative to boost workforce development. The City Council voted in early June to set aside $200,000 to boost career development opportunities in the fiscal year 2024 budget.
