Royals, Rangers prospects to face off at 1 p.m. March 11

Now that the Major League Baseball lockout is over, fans in Surprise can catch some early game action.

The minor league teams for the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals will play each other in a free scrimmage at 1 p.m. Friday, March 11 at Surprise Stadium, 15930 N. Bullard Ave.

The game is open to fans and tickets are not required.

Surprise Stadium to host free minor league scrimmage

Royals, Rangers prospects to face off at 1 p.m. March 11

Now that the Major League Baseball lockout is over, fans in Surprise can catch some early game action.

The minor league teams for the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals will play each other in a free scrimmage at 1 p.m. Friday, March 11 at Surprise Stadium, 15930 N. Bullard Ave.

The game is open to fans and tickets are not required.

Entry to this game will only be through the third base gate, beginning at 11 a.m.

Beginning Saturday, March 12, Surprise Stadium will offer fans free access to attend minor league spring camp on the stadium practice fields.

The Royals' practice fields will open at 11 a.m. daily (60 minutes prior to each game) through March 29.

From March 12-14, the Rangers' practice fields will open at 11 a.m. daily with games at noon. Beginning March 15, Rangers practice fields will open at noon daily with games at 1 p.m.

Games will take place at the Royals and Rangers practice facilities. This is not the main Surprise Stadium field or parking area.

Access to the Kansas City Royals practice facility is located on the northwest end of the stadium complex off of Bullard Avenue and Buck O’Neil Way. Parking is located north of the stadium.

Access to the Rangers practice facility is located on the east side of the Surprise Stadium complex off of Bullard and Tierra Buena Lane. Parking is located just south of Tierra Buena and the Surprise Aquatic Center.

The following are the Surprise Stadium complex policies and guidelines:

  • Skating, animals (except for certified service animals and service animals in training) and lawn chairs are prohibited on Stadium property.
  • Guests are not permitted to have baseball bats inside the practice fields.

Approved bags include:

  • Clear tote — plastic or vinyl and do not exceed 12-inch by 6-inch by 12-inch.
  • Small clutch purse — no larger than 5 x 8 inches with or without a handle or strap.
  • Plastic storage bag — clear, one gallon, resealable.
