Homelessness in Surprise decreased for the second year in a row in the latest year-to-year snapshot in January.
But the person who leads the city’s effort to fix the problem said worsening regional numbers and potential federal budget cuts have made for an uncertain future.
The Maricopa Association of Governments’ recent Point-In-Time unsheltered street count found 38 people in Surprise without homes in January, a month after the city enacted a ban on urban camping. That’s 11 less than last year and nearly half of two years ago when 67 people were found.
