Surprise seeking legal advice on ICE detention center

Council to meet Thursday in executive session

The Surprise City Council is seeking legal advice on Thursday regarding an Immigration and Customs Enforcement warehouse facility in the city, two days after thousands of anti-ICE protesters packed the council chambers and overflow room at City Hall.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security late last month purchased a 400,000-square-foot warehouse near Sweetwater Avenue and Cactus Road for a 1,500-bed detention center for undocumented immigrants.
