Surprise resident Palzer catches ‘Pay it Forward’ fame

Baseball man in The Grand awarded for charitable efforts

Right before the Major League Baseball season’s start, local ball players wanted to surprise a teammate with a “pay it forward” gesture, thanking him for charitable work performed in the community.

Jim Palzer, a more than 22-year resident of The Grand, the active adult 45 and up community once known as Sun City Grand, was awarded $500 as a winning recipient of the CBS 5 Pay it Forward Contest. He received recognition from broadcaster Paul Horton, a meteorologist/reporter for Arizona’s Family-Channels 3 and 5 during the afternoon of March 28.

Horton had arranged to meet the man responsible for spearheading and collecting over $300,000 for charities, including the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life fundraiser, where he can often be found at The Grand’s Field of Dreams Ball Park Stadium, 15134 W. Mountain View Blvd.
