Some trees will be removed in the Surprise Community Park to allow for better conditions for existing trees and the turf around the park.

The Surprise Parks and Recreation Department is working with a contracted landscape company to “increase the health of the trees and turf within the Surprise Community Park by ensuring the most sustainable inventory,” city officials wrote in a news release.

Plans call for approximately 16 trees to be removed between Monday, March 1, and Thursday, March 4.

City officials said removal of the trees will allow for the trees and turf to “better flourish together.”

Apparently, the trees that will be removed are either in decline or were planted too closely to each other, which created expansive dirt areas.

The city said the planting of too many trees can block out the sun and force the trees and turf to compete for irrigation and nutrients, contributing to poor turf conditions.
