Surprise police video requests now come with charge

Council agrees to $46 fee per hour for body cam footage

People who want to view Surprise police body camera footage will now have to pay to do so in most cases.

The Surprise City Council on Nov. 6 voted to institute a $46 per hour charge for city staff to process any video that is one minute to one hour long. Victims of a case will still receive the records for free.

The change should generate about $37,500 in revenue. That’s based on 500 videos the police records staff worked on redacting last year at $46 a pop.
