A man died Saturday in a shooting that involved a Goodyear police officer.
The shooting occurred after officers were called to a home about 5:35 p.m. Nov. 12 near Golf Club Drive and Desert Sage. They were responding “to a suicidal subject who was stabbing himself with a knife,” Goodyear police said in a release.
Officers contacted the man in the backyard of the home, police said, and an officer fired his weapon.
The man was given aid at the scene and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. No officers were injured.
Goodyear police said the Surprise Police Department is investigating the case as a member of the West Valley Investigative Response Team.
